Foster-to-Adopt
Is a bunny right for me?
Are you considering adoption, but not sure if a rabbit is ultimately the right fit for you and your household? This is a great option for those that want to take bunny parenthood for a "test-drive."
Foster FAQs
How much space do I need?
Plan to have a 4x4 pen as a rabbit’s personal space. This space should include soft blankets, a litter box with unlimited hay, a “hidey house” or two, a bowl for pellets, a large bowl for water, and toys. More information on ideal rabbit setups can be found in the video below.
How do I “bunny proof” my home?
Move houseplants high enough that rabbits cannot reach them, move cords out of reach or cover them with cord protectors, and put other chewable items, like books, out of reach of your foster rabbit.
I have other animals, such as a dog or cat. Can I still foster?
Yes! Oftentimes, indoor cats and rabbits get along well. Some dogs and rabbits also get along, however, you know your animals best. Do your animals have a strong prey instinct? If so, a foster rabbit may not be the best fit. Are your animals more laid back? Then it might be a match! When introducing any animals, it’s best to facilitate slow, supervised introductions.
How long is the foster period?
We would love for every foster to commit to a three-month period, but we understand this is not always possible in every situation. Even if you can provide a short-term space one-time for a medical foster, we would love to hear from you! Contact us to talk more about foster timeframes.
